[MEΣMA]IΩN Laureate head of Apollo to right. Basel 214 (this coin). Gorini, Medma, 3. HN Italy 2426. Rare. An unusually attractive example of this difficult issue, with a lovely light green patina. Some breaks in patina near the edge, otherwise, very fine.


Medma was a small settlement on the northwestern coast of Bruttium, some 40 km from Rhegion. Its coinage consists of a minor issue of Corinthian staters and a series of bronze coins, all struck in the second half of the 4th century BC.
